The GESIPA CAP blind rivet is what is known as a cup rivet. The body of the blind rivet in itself is completely air- and water-tight, just like a cup. Moreover, also like a cup, fluid and moisture cannot pass through, but trickles around the rivet. For technical reasons, the mandrel of the GESIPA CAP blind rivet must be fixed in the hollow rivet. However, this limits the extent to which the rivet body can deform during the riveting process. As a consequence, the cup-type blind rivet has only marginal hole filling properties. Nevertheless, they are required in order to compensate for the higher borehole tolerances. Provided the CAP blind rivet is installed with care, it can serve as the basis for a reliable and tight connection. Technical constraints mean that extremely careful preparation is imperative in the application in question. The diameter of the borehole should be as small as possible in order to ensure the rivet works as intended over a long period of time in the application in question.
